The Leadership of a non-profit organization is the compass for the agency, setting its direction and providing a roadmap for growth. The vision that leadership has is ultimately what the agency becomes.

Todd Goodwin, CEO

Todd assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer on January 1, 2020.

Todd is a seasoned nonprofit leader with extensive experience in the disability, behavioral health and child welfare sectors in Maine and across the country. His work in service to others is rooted in a deep respect for and commitment to principles of integrity, quality and accountability.

Todd has served on the Board of Representatives with the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR), a Washington DC-based national trade association for disability service providers. At the state level, he is also a past President of the Maine Association for Community Service Providers. He has held assorted Board of Director seats with multiple nonprofit service agencies.

Todd holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a Master’s degree from Indiana University. He lives in Auburn, enjoys all things outdoors and values time with his two children.

Andrew Cowan, CFO

As Chief Financial Officer, Andrew Cowan is responsible for JFM's financial functions including accounting, audit, treasury, corporate finance, budgeting and internal controls. He also oversees the financial operations of JFM's five Housing and Urban Development companies and the finances of Acadia Academy, a Maine Charter School, for which JFM is a service provider. In addition to his financial oversite Cowan also leads the company's Information Technology and Facility Maintenance activities. Throughout his nearly 20-year career in accounting, auditing and financial planning, Cowan has established a reputation for building excellent teams and aligning financial and business metrics to support business strategy and high-growth.

Before joining the JFM family in 2012 Cowan started his career with Deloitte & Touche (D&T) focusing on audit engagements for early stage technology companies and Sarbanes Oxley (internal control) compliance audits for publicly traded companies. After D&T he worked for multiple for- profit companies in the healthcare, biotech and high tech sector's focusing on technical accounting, budgeting and internal controls.

Andrew is a Certified Public Accountant with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from Northeastern University.

Laurie Crane-Turton, Senior Director Adult Services

Laurie Crane-Turton has worked at John F. Murphy Homes, Inc. since 1987. During her 33 years with the agency, she has served in multiple capacities including Administrator of multiple Adult Group Homes, Director of Training and Clinical Director.

In her role as Senior Director of Adult Services, Laurie is responsible for all aspects of services related to adults served by the organization. She supervises all program areas serving adults at JFM. Program areas include group homes, day programs, employment services, Shared Living and Case Management. Laurie is also responsible for the successful operation of all support functions related to adult services. These include JFM's Training department, Quality Assurance, Behavioral and Psychological services as well as the Corporate Nursing services. Throughout her 30 plus years with JFM, Laurie has set the stage for strong organization of policy/procedure and process. She has taught a variety of Leadership courses for the organization with the goal of promoting long term JFM employees into management/ leadership positions.

Prior to working at JFM, Laurie worked in the Lewiston/Auburn area for multiple agencies like JFM serving in a variety of supervisory or management positions. It wasn't until coming to JFM that she found her exact match for employers and has called JFM home ever since.

Laurie received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine with a major in Rehabilitation Counseling. She attended the University of Connecticut's MSW program as well. Laurie makes her home in Mechanic Falls and is the mother of two adult children. She has recently welcomed a grandson and granddaughter into her family.

Michelle Hathaway, Senior Director Childrens Services

Dr. Hathaway is the founder and Senior Director of Children’s Services for John F. Murphy Homes, Inc. Dr. Hathaway provides clinical and administrative oversight to the Margaret Murphy Centers for Children (founded in 2000), inclusive of eight Special Purpose Private Schools, a Child Care Center and three public-school satellite programs. The Margaret Murphy Centers for Children provide the highest quality clinical and educational supports and services to children with autism, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders. Designed to meet the needs of learners ranging in age from 2 years to 20 years, MMCC clinicians and educators provide a range of services that include evaluation and diagnosis, treatment, education, vocational training and transition planning.

Dr. Hathaway graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. After returning to her home in Maine, she pursued a Master’s degree in Special Education. In 2017, Dr. Hathaway was recognized as a founding member of ACADIA Academy, a public Charter School in Lewiston. Dr. Hathaway completed her doctorate in School Psychology in the summer of 2018.

She is currently a nationally certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), and recognized by the Maine Department of Education as a Special Education Teacher, a Special Education Consultant and as a Special Education Administrator. Most recently, Dr. Hathaway completed her post- doctoral clinical experience and eagerly anticipates attaining state licensure as a Psychologist.

In addition to her role as Senior Director, Dr. Hathaway greatly enjoys her clinical work within the classroom setting, including consultation, the provision of supervision to Behavior Analysts and completing diagnostic evaluations with children experiencing developmental, academic, emotional or behavioral difficulties.
